Mr. Suraci garnered 6,730 votes in his bid for re-election, topping Mr. Wagner’s 6,706.
"Bob and I are both ecstatic at the turnout we had in Hillsborough," Mr. Suraci said. "It shows pepoole are receptive to the work we've done. Bob and I are raring to go."
"The people spoke and I'm looking forward to another three years working for the township," Mr. Wagner said.
Democratic challengers James Farley and Bill Rossi received 4,066 and 3,983 votes, respectively.
A total of 11,499 voters turned out for the balloting, 47 percent of Hillsborough’s 24,456 registered voters.
Republicans carried on all ballots in Hillsborough, with ChrisChristie picking up 6,913 votes in his bid for the governor’s seat. Gov. Jon Corzine received 3,488 votes, and independent Chris Daggett collected 940.
Hillsborough resident Peter Biondi outpaced all others on the ballots in Hillsborough, receiving 7,352 votes in his bid for re-election to the Assembly. Fellow 16th District representative Denise Coyle received 7,078 votes in Hillsborough.
And Hillsborough’s Jack Ciattarelli appears poised to retain his seat on the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, picking up 6,547 votes at home. Fellow Republican freeholder candidate Robert Scaglione received 6,443 votes.
Hillsborough voters were more evenly divided on the public question seeking authorization to borrow $400 million for open space, farmland and historic preservation projects, but 4,363 voters cast votes against the measure to 4,343 in favor.
