MONROE More than two decades ago, Cranbury resident Peter Wise walked into the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen as a volunteer for the first time, faced with the modern-day realities he had routinely overlooked homelessness, drug addiction, mental disorders.
Brown paper bags were stacked along the Municipal Building’s entrance Wednesday afternoon, each containing a stockpile of food and each designated for one of the more than 100 needy residents of Monroe and its neighboring communities who are clients of the township food pantry.
As of the Borough Council’s Nov. 11 meeting, the municipal body is short one member, with a councilman’s election defeat leaving an open seat until January.
