   Energy efficient lighting that is expected to reduce the school district’s annual electric bill by about $12,000 will be installed in the gyms at Hopewell Valley Central High School, Tiimberlane Middle School and Bear Tavern Elementary School, district spokeswoman JoAnn Meyer said Tuesday.

   To ensure the Thanksgiving tables of Mercer County’s less fortunate families are full, Hopewell Valley Girl Scout Troop 71853 will collect food baskets from the community Thursday at a local supermarket.

   I was very glad, but not at all surprised, to see Hopewell Valley Central High School’s girls cross country team recaptured the Mercer County championship again this year.

   Hoping to spruce up the look of Pennington Borough’s downtown, the Borough Council voted unanimously Nov. 2 in favor of applying to the state Department of Environmental Protection for a grant for tree planting.
   A record 29 Hopewell Valley Central High School seniors have been recognized for outstanding academic success by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, including four who earned distinction as 2010 National Merit Semifinalists.
   Four graduates of Hopewell Valley Central High School — including a former big league baseball player, an orthopedic surgeon, a congressman and an opera star — are this year’s inductees into the school’s Distinguished Graduates Hall of Fame.
   The Hopewell Borough Council voted to adopt four ordinances and introduce two new ones at its Nov. 5 meeting.
   A thriving, Madagascar-based gourmet chocolate business is being run by a Hopewell Valley Central High School grad and a partner he met while in the Peace Corps.
   The Pennington Quality Market at Route 31 at East Delaware Avenue will serve as a distribution location for the H1N1 vaccine Saturday.

" This bill should die ASAP I'm a U.S. citizen living in Canada and the socialized medicine here is very different from what we as Americans are used to. When the government gets involved, it's not good. You can't call a specialist if you want one. Do you want to see a dermatologist? You have to go to your family physician first --- if you can find one! Not all doctors take new patients! Your family doctor will then get you a referral to a specialist. That can take months. You have no control as to WHEN you can see the specialist. The specialist will call you WHEN HE/SHE is available to see you. This is not what we should do to the U.S. system. Individual free choice is not an option under the Canadian system. I know because for 9 years I have lived under this system. This proposed healthcare bill sounds much too similar to what we have in Canada. It's not what you should be wanting as Americans. "
