HOPEWELL: 4th grade boys win holiday hoop tourney

The Hopewell Valley 4th Grade Travel Basketball Team won four straight games to capture the Readington Holiday Tournament.Hopewell won its division by beating IHM, 43-5, and Long Hill, 72-10, on Dec. 26, and CBAA-Aivazian, 36-22, on Dec. 29.
Hopewell won the championship game Dec. 30 by beating CBAA-Lolas, 30-22.Throughout the tournament, the boys played well in all areas of the game.
Kieran Karp, Matthew Whitlock and John Michael Vlasac played tenacious defense, and moved the ball around well.
Brandon Friedman and Zachary Bernstein added needed points with outside shooting.
Chad Cenicola, Kole Briehler, Jaydin Shin and Mac Torpey played aggressively to control the baseline and pull down key rebounds in the championship game.In the championship game, John Michael Vlasac won the MVP award, and Chad Cenicola won the “Hustle” award. 
