The New Year has struck and here ate some of our local athletes who have christened the new year with sparkling performances.

Lloyd Daniels scored 20 points helping Colts Neck High School’s boys’ basketball team edge Rumson-Fair Haven in double overtime, 60-57, to win the Bulldawg Classic held at RFH.

Daniels’ effort helped the Cougars’ overcome a 32-point effort by the Bulldogs Brendan Barry.

Woodbridge goalie Adam Godfrey stopped all 23 shots earning the shutout against Old Bridge in the final of the John Piccolo Winter Classic ice hockey tournament held at the Piccolo Arena in Old Bridge. The Barrons won the tournament final, 3-0, and improved to 7-1 on the season.

Anthony Aquilano of Raritan High School, won the Most Outstanding Wrestle Award at the Hawk Classic held at Manchester High School. The Rocket captured the 138-pound title from the 8/9 seed.

Shore Regional High School’s Matt Klemser pinned the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds and upset the No. 2 seed on his way to winning the 113-pound championship at the Holmdel Holiday Wrestling Tournament. He was the fifth seed.

Sophomore Courtney Campbell broke a 30-year-old South Brunswick High School girls’ indoor track and field record when she cleared 5-5 to win the high jump at the Holiday Carnival in Staten Island. The Vikings’ old record was 5-4 which Campbell matched before raising the bar for her record jump.

Ryan Bogan assisted on three goals, including the game-winner as the Christian Brothers Academy’s ice hockey team held off Middletown North to defeat the Lions, 4-3, in an important Shore Conference A North Division game played at the Jersey Shore Arena in Wall Township.

The triumph left CBA (10-2 overall and 8-0 in division play) alone in first place. North (6-1 overall and 5-1 in conference) suffered its first loss of the season.

Erin Seppi scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in Monroe High School’s 59-47 victory over Allentown in the final of the Monroe Girls’ Basketball Tournament played in Monroe Township.

The Falcons (5-0) remained undefeated with the tournament victory.

South Brunswick High School’s Natalia Louhisdon scored a game-high 20 points as the Vikings’ girls’ basketball team remained undefeated, beating Edison, 60-48.

The road victory lifted the girls to 5-0.
