HOPEWELL: Hopewell man faces 14 charges, including DWI, in hit-and-run accident

A Hopewell man was written up for 14 motor vehicle offenses, including drunken driving and driving on a sidewalk, on New Year’s Day in Hopewell Borough.
At 9:43 p.m. Officer Kevin Koveloski investigated a hit-and-run crash in which a 1997 Volkswagen allegedly hit a concrete pole on Columbia Avenue and left the scene. The officer located the driver nearby and identified him as Jacinto Chinguil, 30, of Greenwood Avenue, Hopewell.
While speaking with the driver, the officer said he smelled alcohol. After roadside field sobriety tests, Mr. Chinguil was placed under arrest and taken to police headquarters, where he was processed and released to a friend.
He was charged with driving under the influence, DWI in a school zone, reckless driving, being an unlicensed driver, driving an uninsured vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, failure to observe a traffic signal, failure to keep right, improper use of a lane, driving on a sidewalk and three counts of failure to produce documents.
His case will be heard in Hopewell Borough Municipal Court.
