Leave the cold outside and come inside to check out these appealing scholastic athletic events over the course of the next few days.

Rumson-Fair Haven High School is the place to be for top girls’ basketball action on Jan. 17 when it plays as the host to the Bulldog Challenge featuring four of the area’s best teams.

Middletown South High School starts the festivities off by playing Newark Tech at 11 a.m. Red Bank Catholic tips off against Ramapo at 12:45 p.m. Next up is host RFH taking on Saddle River Day at 2:45. St. John Vianney closes the curtain against Morris Catholic starting at 6 p.m.

On Jan. 16, East Brunswick and Colts Neck, two teams that could see each other in the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group IV girls’ basketball tournament in March will play in East Brunswick. It’s the Greater Middlesex Conference vs. the Shore Conference in this non-conference showdown.

First place in the Greater Middlesex Conference Blue Division is on the line in Iselin when girls’ basketball teams from John F. Kennedy Memorial and Middlesex play at JFK in Iselin. The Mustangs are 2-1 in conference play and Middesex is off to a 4-0 start.

For bowling enthusiasts there is a lot of action on the alleys. On Jan. 15 the Greater Middlesex Conference Individual Tournament finals will be held at Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick.

Also on Jan. 15, Long Branch High School is holding the Winter Wave Tournament at Shore Lanes in Neptune.

On Jan. 16 the Woodbridge Bowling Center is holding the Woodbridge Classic.

The Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex in Toms River will be busy this week with indoor track and field action with the NJSIAA Relays. Group IV goes off on Jan. 14 and 15. On Jan. 16, Group II and Non-Public A and B are in action and Jan. 17 its Groups I and III.

The ice hockey teams from Red Bank Catholic and Rumson-Fair will at the Red Bank Armory on Jan. 16 for first place in the Shore Conference A Central Division. RBC is 4-0-1 in the division and RFH, 4-1-1.

This is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams.
