Here is a look at some sparkling athletic performances by scholastic athletes that will surely warm up your spirits

South Brunswick High School’s Brian DiBartolo registered three pins at 160-pounds to highlight the Vikings’ sweep of a quad meet in Monmouth Junction. The Vikings downed Ridge, 56-15, North Brunswick, 54-27 and New Brunswick, 45-31.

With the three victories, South Brunswick climbed over .500 and is 6-5 on the season.

Allentown High School’s John Rugo registered the 100th victory of his wrestling career when he scored a pin at 160 pounds during Allentown’s 69-15 victory over Notre Dame.

Rugo is 14-0 for the season, with 12 pins.

The surging Redbirds are 9-5 overall but, in first place in the Colonial Valley Conference Patriot Division, where their record is 7-0.

Maureen Coakley scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the second half leading the Red Bank Catholic girls’ basketball team to a 52-39 victory over Ramapo at the Bulldog Challenge held at Rumson-Fair Haven High School.

RBC trailed by 11 points in the third quarter before storming back behind Coakley to pick up the non-conference win. Coakley also pulled down 10 rebounds as RBC improved to 10-2.

Also at the Bulldog Challenge, St. John Vianney, widely regarded as the No. 1 team in the state, needed Tina Lebron’s three-point shot at the buzzer to get by Morris Catholic, 43-41.

Elijah Barnes picked up team Most Valuable Players honors for Mater Dei Prep after he led the Seraphs to a 51-38 victory over St. Peter’s Prep at the Dan Finn Classic in Jersey City.

Barnes scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots as Mater Die improved to 9-1 on the season.

South Brunswick High School’s Alex Sorge and Sayreville’s Mary Kate Kershing were the winners at the Greater Middlesex Conference Bowling Championships held at Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick.

Sorge captured the boys’ title defeating JP Stevens’ Cameron LaPlant, 288-226, in the final.

Kershing took the girls championship besting South Plainfield’s Lanasia Neal, 190-159.

Tyler Kogut of Old Bridge High School scored the 100th point of his career during the Knights’ 7-5 victory over South Brunswick at the Piccolo Ice Arena in Old Bridge.

Kogut scored five points on the night, three goals and two assists, bringing his career point total to 101. He is seventh Old Bridge ice hockey player to score 100 or more career points.

Old Bridge improved to 8-5 on the season but, 7-1 in its last eight games.

At the NSIAA Indoor Track and Field Relays, Rumson-Fair Haven High School’s Morgan Steinhacker ran on both of the Bulldogs’ winning relay teams, the 4×800 and the Sprint Medley, which helped RFH win the Group II championship with 36 points.

Steinhacker also ran on the second place 4×400 team. Her relay teams accounted for 28 of RFH’s points.
