ABERDEEN — The Aberdeen Township Council approved an ordinance establishing new regulations for the removal of snow and ice from residential and commercial properties, according to a press release.
Under the recently adopted ordinance, it is the responsibility of the owner of any residential lot to remove all snow and ice from the sidewalk area in front of or bordering the lot within 24 hours of the end of a storm event. The sidewalk area should be cleared to a width of at least three feet.
For nonresidential lots abutting or bordering on the sidewalks of a public street, the property owner or operator is required to remove all snow and ice from the sidewalk area in front of or bordering the site within 12 hours of the cessation of the storm.
If the property owner or operator fails to or refuses to clean the areas in the time frames provided, the Township has the power to remove the snow or ice and bill the associated costs to the owner.
