Mayor’s Food Basket fills pantry’s shelves

MIDDLETOWN — With the support of the community, the Mayor’s Food Basket added more than three tons of food to the Middletown Food Pantry this holiday season.

More than 6,500 pounds of food have been donated since Thanksgiving. Donors included residents, youth groups, businesses and community and civic organizations.

“The outpouring of support from the community was overwhelming,” said Middletown Township Mayor Stephanie Murray in a press release. She noted that contributions were more than triple compared to the 2014 holiday drive.

Donations are accepted at the Middletown Food Pantry throughout the year at 185 Main St., Port Monmouth. Nonperishable food items, personal hygiene products and cleaning supplies are accepted. For more information, call 732
