South Brunswick officers stay at hotel during blizzard

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — The South Brunswick Police Department partnered with an area hotel to house its officers during last weekend’s snowstorm.

“We need ’round-the-clock support, and it was more economical and helps morale to provide them hotel rooms. The officers are working 12- to 16-hour shifts. By putting them up in hotels we get better rested officers back quicker,” Chief Raymond Hayducka said.

The department realized that it would be financially cheaper to offer the officers a room at the Courtyard Marriott on Route 535 by Exit 8A of the N.J. Turnpike than to have to bring different officers in on overtime.

“[Hotel representatives] told us many guests had checked out Friday morning, and they were willing to house the officers at a discounted rate,” Hayducka said.
