MILLTOWN — A black Labrador is cold and shaken up, but safe after falling through ice on Mill Pond Tuesday morning.

Police Lt. Chris Johnson said the incident was reported around 10 a.m. on Jan. 26.

“The dog owner was walking on the path by the pond when the dog got away from the owner and then had fallen through the ice,” he said. “The owner then called for help.”

Police Sgt. Brian Knelle, Department of Public Works Manager Ralph Jasionowski and members of the Milltown Rescue Squad responded to the scene.

“We have a line in the patrol cars and it was thrown out to the dog and they were able to get to the dog,” said Johnson adding that Sgt. Knelle and Jasionowski had also fallen into the pond during the rescue.

“All parties are cold and shaken, but not injured … it’s a nice end to a horrible story.”
