Places to be

It is conference championship weekend so bundle up and get out of the cold and visit these venues over the coming days.

The Greater Middlesex Conference Wrestling Tournament is Jan. 29 and 30 at Piscataway High School.

The Greater Middlesex Conference Swimming Championships are also on Jan. 29 and 30 at the Perth Amboy YMCA. The boys are in the pool first holding their championships on Jan. 29 and the girls will swim for their titles the following day.

The Ocean County YMCA in Toms River is holding the Shore Conference Swimming Championships on Jan. 29 and 30. The boys are up first on the 29th and the girls take center stage the next day.

There’s plenty of action for Shore area wrestling fans. The Shore Conference Tournament opens on Jan. 28 with preliminary and quarterfinal matches in the home gym of the top four seeds-1-Christian Brothers Academy, 2. -Howell, 3-Wall Township and 4-Jackson Memorial.

Red Bank Regional will be the site for the semifinal and final rounds on Jan. 30.

Two of the top boys’ basketball teams in the Greater Middlesex Conference, St. Joseph of Metuchen and Old Bridge, clash on Jan. 28 in Old Bridge. This game will be important regarding seeding for next month’s GMC Tournament.

Middletown South High School’s girls’ basketball team will be looking to secure the Shore Conference A North Division title on Jan. 28 when the Eagles travel to Marlboro.

The Mustangs have just one loss in division play, that to Middletown South, and could catch the Eagles with a home victory. An Eagle victory and Middletown South has what would be a comfortable  two-game lead.

Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick is where the Greater Middlesex Conference Bowling Team Tournament will be held. The tournament begins on Feb. 1 with the preliminary round. The tourney will continue through to the Feb. 5 final.

The Shore Conference Individual Bowling Championships are Feb. 3 at Bradley Beach Bowl.

Woodbridge High School’s ice hockey team will put its 13-game unbeaten streak on the line when the Barrons step out of the GMC to take on Montgomery on Jan.  29 at the Old Bridge Sports Arena.
