The Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison, has announced Professor Eugene Lieber will present The Roaring 20’s Parts 1 and 2 at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 9 and 16.
The 1920’s were an age of dramatic social and political change. For the first time, more Americans lived in cities than on farms. The nation’s total wealth more than doubled between 1920 and 1929 allowing the rise of a “consumer culture.” Politically, the country moved from Wilson’s moralism to Harding and the Teapot Dome Scandal to Calvin Coolidge to Herbert Hoover and the stock market crash in October, 1929.
Eugene Lieber will touch on these historic events as well as the impact of the automobile, changes in entertainment and sports as well as race relations and the evolution of economic policy.
