The big game is Sunday when the Super Bowl is on center stage. But before you get wrapped up in Carolina and Denver meeting in the 50th Super Bowl, check out these super scholastic matchups over the coming days.

 The Middletown Township Civil War on Ice takes place on Feb. 5 at Middletown Ice World when the high school teams from Middletown North and Middletown South meet in a Shore Conference game.

Carolier Lanes in North Brunswick is where the finals of the Greater Middlesex Conference Team Bowling Championships will be held on Feb. 5. Edison is the top-seeded girls’ team and East Brunswick is the No. 1 seed for boys.

Two of the top girls’ basketball teams in the Greater Middlesex Conference, Bishop Ahr and South Brunswick, will play in Edison on Feb. 6. This game could determine seeding for the GMC Tournament that begins Feb. 13.

The NJSIAA indoor track and field championships begin this week with the state sectional championships at the busy Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex in Toms River.

On Feb. 5, Central Jersey, Groups II and III are up. On Feb. 6, its North Jersey, Section II, Groups II and III. Central Jersey, Groups I and IV wait until Feb. 12 to compete for their championships and South Jersey, Groups I and IV and North Jersey, Section II, Groups I and IV are both on Feb. 13.

The qualifiers from the sectionals advance to the Group championships back in Toms River on Feb. 19 and 20.

On Feb. 8 they will play the annual Jack Kuhnert Memorial basketball game in Freehold Borough where the Colonials serve as the host to cross-town rival Freehold Township in an A North Division game.

 The late Jack Kuhnert was a legendary head coach of the Freehold Borough boys’ basketball team and he was actively involved with the Freehold Township Recreation Department.

Each year when Freehold Borough and Freehold Township play their game at Freehold Borough it designated as the Kuhnert Memorial game. The winner receives the Kuhnert Trophy to keep for the year.

The NJSIAA wrestling sectionals begin on Feb. 8.

In Central Jersey, Group V, the No. 3 seed, Old Bridge, is home to No. 6 Hillsborough and fourth-seeded Manalapan is home to No. 5 Monroe Township.

In Central Jersey, Group IV, No. 5 Colts Neck travels to the defending state champion, No. 4 Brick Memorial.

In Central Jersey, Group III, No. 3 Ocean is home to No. 6 Carteret and No. 5 Allentown visits No. 4 Cranford.

Holmdel is the No. 6 seed in Central Jersey, Group II and will go to Point Pleasant Boro, the third seed.

New Egypt is the fourth seed in Central Jersey, Group I and will serve as the host to No. 5 Keansburg.

Woodbridge is the No. 3 seed in North Jersey Section, Section II, Group    IV and will wrestle No. 6 Middletown South.

In the Non-Public A South, St. John Vianney is the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 Red Bank Catholic.

The sectional semifinals are Feb. 10 at the highest seeded team and the final is Feb. 12 in the home gym of the highest seed. The Group championships are Feb. 14 at the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River.
