Somerset Eye Care changes location with help of small business loan

People make their way along the grounds of Heritage Day held at Babbage Park in North Brunswick on September 29. The annual event included rides, games, entertainment and vendors from throughout the area.

Somerset Eye Care has moved to a new location at 2090 Route 27, North Brunswick, with the support of a Small Business Administration (SBA) loan from Unity Bank of Clinton.

Drs. Bethany and Jonathan Fishbein of South Brunswick opened the practice in 2001 and previously provided services at locations in Somerset and New Brunswick.

The new custom-built 4,500-square-foot facility has six examination rooms; the latest technology in optometry, including digital refracting systems, digital retinal photographs and a corneal mapping system; and a large retail area for glasses, featuring more than 500 frames, many from European designers.

The Fishbeins both graduated with their doctorates from New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1997. Bethany, originally from Cranford, received her undergraduate degree from SUNY-Binghamton (now Binghamton University) in New York, and Jonathan, originally from Toronto, Canada, graduated from the University of Toronto.

North Brunswick Township High School graduate Dr. Prapti Shah also provides optometry services at the practice, where she started her career as a technician while studying at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. She received her doctorate from the State University of New York College of Optometry.
