Upon arrival, the fire was contained to a solar panel on the roof of Macy’s, according to a statement released by the East Brunswick Police Department.

Firefighters extinguished the fire without any further extension. The fire was determined under control at approximately 11:15 a.m., police said. Damage was contained to the roof area and the floors below the fire.

The mall was evacuated during the initial response. After it was determined that the fire was contained to Macy’s and there was no danger to any customers or other stores, the mall was reopened, except for the Macy’s wing, according to officials.
