HILLSBOROUGH: Simonik, who started with school district in 1977, will retire

Eileen Simonik, who began working in the school district in September 1977, will retire at the end of the school year. The Board of Education approved her request Monday night.
She is a teacher of special education at Hillsborough Elementary School. Her tenure was interrupted by a break in service.
Betsy Galli, instructional assistant at Hillsborough High School, will also retire effective July 1. She has been employed by the district since December 1993.
The board approved two resignations:
– Peter Ciurczak, high school band front winter co-curricular advisor, as of Jan. 26, and
– Betsy Valenza, teacher of French at Hillsborough Middle School, effective March 18, or sooner if a replacement is found. She has been employed here since Sept. 1.
 The board hired four people:
– Vivian Fasano, teacher of Spanish at Auten Road Intermediate School, replacing Beatriz Padilla, who had resigned, through the end of the school year. Her annual salary would be $55,545, the first step on the guide for a teacher with a bachelor of arts degree.
– Laura Lambert, teacher of special education resource two hours per day at Sunnymead School, effective Jan. 26 through June 30, at a salary of $60,745, the sixth step for a teacher with a master of arts degree.
– Scott Samuels, teacher of art for 3 ½ hours per day at Hillsborough Middle School, was hired effective Jan. 29 through June 30, to replace Danielle Sarnowski, whose resignation was approved in December. His salary is $55,545 per year.
 — Xu Xu was hired as a teacher of Chinese at Auten Road Intermediate School and the high school, through June 30, at a $59,745 annual salary, She replaces Michelle Zhao, whose resignation was approved at the Dec. 21 meeting. 
