Contest inspired by the life of Mahatma Gandhi

The Association of Indians in America – South Jersey (AIA-SJ) is holding the Mahatma Gandhi Art & Writing Contest 2016.

All New Jersey middle and high school students can submit their original works, written or art, based on the following quotation from Mahatma Gandhi: “I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.”

Entries must be submitted on a form duly signed by a teacher or guidance counselor.

Art entries must be larger than 12 inches by 18 inches and should include the title of the work, an artist statement up to 100 words about how the work relates to the theme of the contest, a description of the art medium used and the student entry form in a sheet protector attached with masking tape.

Written short essays or poems must be less than 300 words.

All entries become the property of AIA-SJ and will not be returned.

Cash awards ranging from $50 to $250 will be awarded to the highest rated entries in each category. Up to 30 selected contestants will be recognized and will be required to attend the award ceremony scheduled for Oct. 2 at Princeton University
