HOPEWELL VALLEY: ‘Pippin’ opens next week at high school

The cast of Hopewell Valley Central High School’s production of Pippin extends their hearts and asks the community to “join us” and "take in their corner of the sky on one of the two weekends

"Pippin," the Broadway musical, comes to Hopewell Valley Central High School on two upcoming weekends (Feb. 26-27 and March 4-5).
Shows are at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at the school, 259 Pennington-Titusville Road.
The show features a colorful troupe of performers, led by the charismatic Leading Player, and featuring music by Stephen Schwartz, the composer who later penned the Broadway hit “Wicked.”
The ensemble cast tells the story of Pippin, a young prince who longs to find passion and adventure in his life. To prove his loyalty to his distracted father, King Charles, Pippin goes to war. But when the Leading Player convinces the prince to fight tyranny, Pippin kills Charles and takes over the throne.
Realizing his mistake, Pippin begs the Leading Player to bring his father back to life, and she obliges. The prince falls in love with Catherine, a widow with a young son, and (much to the Leading Player’s chagrin), Pippin struggles to decide whether he should settle down and pursue a peaceful life or continue to make magic with the dazzling troupe of performers.
Pippin’s journey is universal to people at any stage of life. The character of Pippin is an Everyman, and at some point we all have experienced the same longing to find our “Corner of the Sky,” or the thing that brings us fulfillment and happiness.
The shows are the next two Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at the high school, 259 Pennington-Titusville Road, Pennington. Tickets are available online at www.showtix4u.com at $12 for an adult and $8 for student and senior citizens, or can be purchased at the door on the night of the show.
Note: Due to adult subject matter, this show is recommended for a mature audience.
