Documentary premiere next up at Pearl Center

The Daniel Pearl Education Center (DPEC), East Brunswick, will host the New Jersey premiere of “Karski and the Lords of Humanity” beginning at noon March 6 at Temple B’nai Shalom, 15 Fern Road, East Brunswick.

The new film is a partially animated documentary about Jan Karski, the man who tried in vain to stop the Holocaust. As a courier for the Polish Underground in 1942, Karski secretly carried information from Nazi-occupied Poland to London and Washington, D.C., for the Polish government in exile. Jewish leaders in the Warsaw Ghetto told him of Hitler’s destruction of Poland’s Jews, then smuggled him into the ghetto and a Nazi transit camp to see for himself. He carried his eyewitness account of the atrocities to England and the United States, hoping to shake the conscience of the powerful leaders, whom he would later call “The Lords of Humanity.”

Following the screening, the film’s Emmy Award-winning director, Slawomir Grunberg, and Rutgers University faculty members will lead a question-and-answer discussion.

The DPEC, a nonprofit, charitable organization committed to the ideals of community and understanding, sponsors a number of area programs and activities including an annual trip for area teens to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.; Daniel Pearl scholarships to graduating seniors at East Brunswick High School; teacher-training workshops; a speaker series; and more.

Tickets to the screening are free of charge and may be reserved by calling 732-251-4300, ext. 232, or by emailing rbrenowitz1@aol.com.
