Felician University freshman left-hander Kaitlyn Buck (Howell High School) qualified for the all-tournament team at the 2016 Golden Bear Classic NCAA women’s bowling tournament, hosted by Kutztown University at Bowl-O-Rama. Felician finished sixth out of the 12 teams in attendance and posted an 8-6 win-loss record in dual matches.

The tournament format called for five five-game Baker matches on the first day of competition and six more the next day. The teams were then seeded based on dual-match record into the playoff bracket, consisting of best-of-7 Baker matches. The Golden Bear Classic is believed to be the only three-day NCAA event consisting solely of Baker matches (without any “traditional” match play).

The all-tournament team was selected among those bowlers who participated in at least 70 percent of their team’s frames during the 11 matches the first two days. Buck posted the second-highest Baker frame average among such competitors, a 20.11. Lauren Stamm of Kutztown was named the tournament Most Valuable Player with an average of 21.01.

For her performance at the Classic, Buck was named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Rookie of the Week.

The Golden Falcons were 3-2 the first day of the tournament with a 1,008-946 victory over No. 22 nationally-ranked Sacred Heart University. The 1,008 set a Felician record for a five-game Baker series. Buck’s high school teammate at Howell, Kristin Natoli, bowled leadoff for the Golden Falcons.

Natoli was also on the Felician lineup that set a school Baker game record of 265 during the tournament.

The Falcons had a Baker game average of 173.3 for the tournament.

Buck and Natoli were teammates at Howell, where they anchored Rebels teams that won multiple Shore Conference division, Monmouth County and Central Jersey championships.

Former Colts Neck High School basketball player Kaitlin Schullstrom is the captain of the Rowan University women’s basketball team that currently leads the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Rowan has a 20-4 overall record, including 14-3 in the NJAC.

At Colts Neck, Schullstrom was a three-sport star in volleyball, basketball and softball.
