Places to be

 Championships are at stake along with a trip to Atlantic City this weekend. Here is what is on tap.

The Pine Belt Arena in Toms River is the place to be for wrestling fans. The arena will serve as host to the NJSIAA Region 6 Tournament Feb. 26-27. The Shore Conference’s best wrestlers will compete for the opportunity to go to Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall for the Individual Sate Championships March 4-6. The top three finishers in each weight class this weekend are off to AC.

The Greater Middlesex Conference Basketball Tournament is holdings it s final on Feb. 25 at Kean University in Union.

The girls' final at 6 p.m. will feature top seed Monroe against East Brunswick, which is making its first final appearance since 2002.

Top-seed St. Joseph’s will be taking on a South Brunswick team that has not been to the GMC final since 1999 in the boys' championship game that tips off at 8 p.m.

The Shore Conference Basketball Tournament finals are Feb. 27 at Monmouth University’s Multi Activity Center (MAC) in West Long Branch.

The girls' final tips off at 5 p.m. It features top-seed St. John Vianney against rival Manasquan, the No. 3 seed.

The boys' final is at 7 p.m. with the first-time finalist and the No. 1 seed, Mater  Dei, meeting the tournament’s perennial favorite, Christian Brothers Academy, seeded No. 2.

The NJSIAA Ice Hockey Tournament is underway and Round of 16 games are being played.

Defending Public B champion Middletown North is the top seed this year and will play No. 17 Summit at Middletown Ice World on Feb. 25.

Last year’s Private School champion, Christian Brothers Academy, is the No. 3 seed t his year and will play No. 14 Seton Hall Prep on Feb. 26 at the Jersey Shore Arena in Wall Township.

In Public A, Howell, the No. 5 seed takes on No. 12 Watchung Hills at Howell Ice World o n Feb. 26. Howell was the Public A finalist last year.
No. 8 seed Jackson Memorial is playing No. 9 Morris Knolls of Feb. 26 at the Jersey Shore Arena.

The curtain closes on the indoor track and field season at the Bennett Indoor Athletic Complex in Toms River with the NJSIAA Meet of Champions on Feb. 27.The girls compete at 10 a.m. and the boys at 1 p.m.

The NJSIAA Individual Swimming and Diving Championships are Feb. 26-27 a the Gloucester County  Institute of Technology in Sewell. Fans get to see who the state’s fastest swimmers are.
