HILLSBOROUGH: Senior center plans March schedule

Adults age 60 and older are invited to visit the county-operated Hillsborough Senior Center at 339 South Branch Road. The center is open from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Its phone is 908-369-8700.
Exercise with Rose every Tuesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. The program includes games, stretches, walks, chair fitness and strength training movement. Learn to play mah jongg Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
Transportation is available.
Blood pressure screenings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. Caram (an East Indian game similar to billiards) and other games can be played every Thursday. Cards are available every day. The bocce court and horseshoe pit are available daily.
Enjoy lunch for a suggested donation of $1.50 or more. (Price for guests under 60 is $5.35). Call 908-369-8700 before 10:30 a.m. the day before to make a lunch reservation.
The center’s schedule for the month:
March 2 – “Who am I?”  10 a.m. Ask clever questions to determine the identity of famous historians, celebrities, authors or public figures).
March 2 – Bingo Bonanza, 10:45 a.m.
March 3 – Name That Tune: A Musical Adventure (Challenge your memory to guess old and new favorite songs in this hilarious game).
Fri., March 4 — Love Your Pet Day, 10:45 a.m. Katy Nordhaus from the Franklin Animal Shelter will share stories of animal rescue and introduce shelter animals. Following their visit, participants will share their own pet photos and stories.
Mon., March 7 — National Agriculture Day Event, 10:15 a.m. Participate in a public art project to create flower planters from recycled tires. The works of art will be displayed in Somerset County’s parks.
Tues., March 8, 15, 22 and 29 — Tuesday mornings are Mahjong mornings. Lessons and refreshers are available. 10 a.m.
Tues., March 8 and 22 — Mind-stretching exercises can stimulate the brain.
Wed., March 9 — Bagpipes performance by Matt Theil, 10:45 a.m. Matt started playing in the 8th grade. Once on the full set of pipes, he joined the St. Ann’s of Hampton Pipes and Drums Band. He has competed in bagpipe competitions as part of the band and as a solo bagpiper in both the United States and Scotland. Matt is a Grade 3 Piper and attends Raritan Valley Community College. He will talk about the history of the bagpipes, which are among the world’s oldest instruments, and his experiences while learning to play.

Fri., March 11 — TED Talks, 10 a.m. For the first 15 minutes watch a TED Talk. Then we will discuss it as a group. For background, visit www.TED.com.
Fri., March 11 — “Germ Warfare” by Reeta Aggarwal, BrightStar Homecare, 10:45 a.m. Learn proper hand-hygiene techniques and other ways of preventing the spread of germs. Hand washing is the single most important thing you can do to stop the spread of germs. A hand sanitizer will be given to each attendee.
Mon., March 14 — Left, Right, Center Game, 10 a.m.
Mon., March 14 — Laugh while you compete against friends trying to imitate, guess or draw spring words.
Tues., March 15 and 29 — Trivia time with Anna, 11:15 a.m.
Wed., March 16 — A lecture and wire jewelry workshop, “The Life & Work of Louis Comfort Tiffany” will be an Art of the Masters program by Creative Notions at 10:30 a.m. After a 15-minute presentation about the artist, which is open to all, 16 participants will take part in a hands-on project that will be in the likeness of the featured artist. Thurs., March 17 — Saint Patrick’s Day celebration with a step dancing demonstration by Lynne’s Academy of Irish Dance students in costume, 10:45 a.m. Lunch will feature corned beef and cabbage. Call to make reservations by March 15.

Mon., March 21 — Create origami mobiles with Pam, 10:30 a.m. Learn the history of origami, fold several designs and create a decorative hanging mobile.
Wed., March 23 — Christy Barboe of Central Jersey Housing Resource Center will lead a discussion on affordable housing options, living situations, housing rehabilitation programs and housing scams. 10:30 a.m.
Thurs., March 24 – Test your knowledge on March history, celebrity birthdays and March holidays.
Fri., March 25 — Center closed for holiday.
Mon., March 28 — Registered dietitian Samantha Nunzio of ShopRite/Wakefern will discuss how to use seasonings to enhance foods. Recipe samples will provide a new spin on pasta.
Wed., March 30 — Mandala art design workshop, 10 a.m. Mandalas with intricate geometric patterns are thought to represent the universe. The basic Mandala is a square with four “gates” containing a circle. As an art form they are beautiful when color is added.
Wed., March 30 — Jeopardy featuring all things March, 10:45 a.m.
Wed., March 30 — Birthday celebration.
Thurs., March 31 — Bingo Bonanza.
