Hillsborough Service Unit 72, comprised of more than 90 Girl Scout troops serving girls from kindergarten through high school, will celebrate National Girl Scout Week from Sunday through Saturday, March 6-12.
In the tradition of Juliette Low, who founded the Girl Scout organization on March 12, 1912, girls are encouraged to provide a service to their house of worship on either the Sunday or Shabbat during the week. Girls will once again provide home-baked refreshments for fellowship time following the Girl Scout Sunday and Girl Scout Shabbat services.
Nine houses of worship will participate, and Scout leaders are asking for volunteer Girl Scout bakers. If you are a Girl Scout or leader and would like to bake something to donate to one of the locations use a link found on the “service” page of the Boro Girl Scouts website at www.borogirlscous.org.
National Girl Scout Week begins with Girl Scout Sunday on March 6; includes the Girl Scout Shabbat on Friday, March 11, and concludes with the Girl Scout Birthday on Saturday, March 12.
All Girl Scouts and their friends and family are encouraged to visit any one of the participating churches or temple in Hillsborough for Sunday/Shabbat services. All are welcome to attend any one of the houses of worship regardless of faith. Girls should wear their vest/sash on this day so that they may be recognized as Girl Scouts. The level of participation varies with each location. See the online signup at www.borogirlscouts.org for details. At all locations the Girl Scouts will stay and host coffee hour and fellowship time following worship service.
This year’s participating locations are South Branch Reformed Church, Neshanic Reformed Church, Hillsborough Reformed Church at Millstone, Fellowship Bible Church, Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kingston Presbyterian Church and Temple Beth-El.
The SU72 Girl Scout birthday event “Try Something New” takes place on Friday, March 4. This a service unit sponsored event for Girl Scouts of any age and is led by volunteer Girl Scouts age Cadette and older.
