Pupils bring ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’ to Plumsted

PLUMSTED – A humorous take on the “Roaring ’20s” will come to the stage at New Egypt High School, Evergreen Road, as more than 30 students swing to the sights, sounds and story of “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”

“Thoroughly Modern Millie” will be performed at 7 p.m. March 4-5 and at 2 p.m. March 6, according to a press release from the school.

The play, written in 2002 by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlon, with music by Jeanine Tesori, is the stage adaptation of a 1967 movie of the same name.

In “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” a “flapper” named Millie Dillmount, played by¬†Haley Gould, decides to get a job and marry for financial stability instead of for love.

To that end, Millie decides to seek marriage with the wealthy Trevor Graydon, played by Tanner Kazio, despite her affections for a paperclip salesman named Jimmy Smith, played by Anthony Plaag.

Regardless of Millie’s advances, however, Trevor loves her roommate, Dorothy Brown, played by Lauren Harper.

Millie, Trevor, Jimmy and Dorothy struggle to find love while the landlady Mrs. Meers, played by Casey Hendrickson, tries to sell Dorothy, who is an orphan, into white slavery.
