In recognition of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Community Medical Center is offering two free community education programs to raise awareness about prevention, early detection and treatment of colorectal cancer.
A colorectal cancer awareness symposium will be held March 22, 5:30 p.m. at the Community Medical Center Auditorium, 99 Route 37 west, Toms River. The symposium will feature medical experts discussing topics important to colorectal cancer awareness, including risk factors, screening for early detection, treatment options and prevention strategies. A dietitian will also discuss how to incorporate healthy eating into your life to reduce your risk for colorectal cancer. Dinner, free parking and a free drawing will be provided. Seating is limited. The hospital’s 12th Annual Colorectal Cancer Awareness Fair, chaired by Paul J. DeMartino, M.D., F.A.C.G., will also be held March 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Outpatient Lobby. Participants will have the opportunity to meet nurses and physicians who will be available throughout the day to answer questions. Health care professionals will present information on risk factors, the importance of early detection and nutritional considerations pertaining to colorectal cancer. There will also be a colonoscopy demonstration and tours. The event is free and light refreshments will be available. Free parking is available for fair attendees.
