March Arts Madness will kick off in E.B.

The East Brunswick Arts Commission will sponsor its upcoming March Arts Madness series of concerts and lectures at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center, 721 Cranbury Road.

The opening event, a concert featuring a trio performing on flute, cello and piano, is set for 3 p.m. March 6. Flutist Mary Schmidt, cellist Elizabeth Thompson and pianist Dr. Akiko Hosaki will present a mixture of musical selections by Ravel, Martinu, Piazolla and Poulenc.

Pianist Alina Kiryayeva will perform a concert titled “Moving Pictures” at 3 p.m. March 13. The multimedia event will showcase classical works featured in cartoons such as “Looney Tunes” and “Tom and Jerry” and films such as “Love Story,” “Twilight” and more.

Humorist Al Kustanowitz will conclude the series with a lecture titled “Israel Is a Funny Country” 3 p.m. March 20. The talk will offer a look at the multifaceted nature of humor in Israel. Topics will include humorous slices of Israeli life; Israeli comedy, satire and parody; humorous television commercials; unusual stories about food; “simchas” as they are celebrated in Israel; and more.

All programs are free of charge and open to the public.
