Mental health counselor charged with child sex assault

OLD BRIDGE – A youth counselor from Rutgers University has been charged with improperly touching a boy under the age of 16 on multiple occasions.

Irving Acevedo, 42, of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge, was charged on Feb. 25 with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to a statement prepared by Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief William Volkert of the Old Bridge Police Department.

The defendant was in custody waiting for bail to be set, as of press time.

The victim was not one of the children who received counseling from Acevedo, a mental health specialist, officials said.
