The Mason Gross School Dance Department is partnering with the New Jersey Parkinson’s Disease Information and Referral Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital to present a series of movement classes for people with Parkinson’s disease.
Instructors will guide participants through a series of gentle stretches, posture supports and joint articulations, as well as balance, stability, and locomotion activities that are meant to be both challenging and fun.
Professional dancer David Tamaki, who leads the New Jersey Ballet’s Dancing for Parkinson’s program, will be the primary instructor. Instructor Natalie Schultz-Kahwaty, who recently completed her PhD focusing on dance and Parkinson’s research, will be on hand for classes on May 7, May 18 and June 11. Live music will be provided by Diane Pivarnik.
The free classes will take place from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Wednesdays, March 30-June 8 at RWJ Fitness Center, 100 Kirkpatrick St., Second Floor, New Brunswick; and from 11 a.m.-noon Saturdays, April 2-June 11 at the Mason Gross Performing Arts Center, Nicholas Music Center, Studio 110, 85 George St., on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers University, New Brunswick.
