EAST BRUNSWICK – An investigation by a policeman who observed a vehicle driving in an unsafe manner led to the confiscation of 71 bags of heroin.
On Feb. 26 around 4:15 p.m., Ptlmn. Anthony DeSantis observed a vehicle driving in a reckless manner on Ryders Lane approaching Dunhams Corner Road.
DeSantis subsequently initiated a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle. While speaking with the driver, Walter Waddy, 41, of Spotswood, the officer allegedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from within the vehicle, according to a statement prepared by the East Brunswick Police Department.
Waddy was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated and was allegedly found to be in possession of 71 bags of heroin in his jacket pocket.
Waddy was transported to headquarters and charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of heroin, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a school zone and numerous motor vehicle summonses including driving while intoxicated.
Waddy was transferred to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of $30,000 bail.
