East Brunswick police recover gun during motor vehicle stop

 

EAST BRUNSWICK – An officer who detected the odor of marijuana during a motor vehicle stop eventually located a gun in the vehicle as well.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 27, Ptlmn. Christian Longhitano initiated a motor vehicle stop on Route 18 north near the New Jersey Turnpike.

While speaking to the driver, Longhitano allegedly detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, according to a statement prepared by the East Brunswick Police Department.

As police searched the passenger, Herbert Donerson, 22, of Piscataway, they allegedly found a loaded 9mm handgun in his jacket pocket and a bag of marijuana in his front jeans pocket. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Donerson was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of marijuana under 50 grams. He was transferred to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in lieu of $70,000 bail.
