The newest portrait for the township’s gallery of portraits, which hang in the meeting room of the municipal building, of important ex-residents will be unveiled tonight, Friday, at Hillsborough’s Fine Art & Photography Exhibit, which returns this weekend.
The exhibit runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 11, at the Municipal Building, South Branch Road. A reception and unveiling is at 7 p.m.
The show will also be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
The newest portrait is the work of Hillsborough High School student Echo Chen. It is of Gov. Peter D. Vroom (1791-1873), born in Hillsborough and who served as the governor of New Jersey on two occasions (November 1829–October 1832 and October 1833–November 1836) and as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for a single term, from 1839–1841.
Almost 300 works of art have been submitted in five categories of fine art for adults, high schoolers and independent schoolers, and photography for adults and high schoolers. Students from nine high schools are participating.
Prizes will be awarded in each category: First of $175, second of $125, third of $100 and four honorable mentions winning $50 in gift certificates.
