Danielle Austen of Hillsborough will display her photographs in an exhibit entitled “Echoing Cascades” at the Monmouth Museum as part of its N.J. Emerging Artist Series. The show starts Friday, March 18, and runs until April 17. Admission is free.
An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 18, at the museum at 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft.
Ms. Auten will give a gallery talk from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, in Nilson Gallery at the museum.
“My work reflects my desire to capture the many tranquil aspects of my journeys that are moments often missed by a casual observer. As an artist trained in both photojournalism and the fine art, I focus on documenting intimate portraits of the environment with the intent to communicate to the viewer the spirituality I envision in each moment.”
She says she has always been drawn to nature, “especially the peaceful and mystical element of water.”
She says, “There is no life without water as it is the driving force of all nature. Water can be flexible yet unyielding and calming yet destructive.”
She said she was struck by the differences and correlation between color and black & white photography.
“Subsequently, in this exhibition I will feature the pairing of vibrant color and dramatic black-and-white images printed on both archival paper and satin,” she said.
