NORTH BRUNSWICK – Recognizing the importance of good oral health, hygiene practices and healthy food choices, students at John Adams Elementary School in North Brunswick participated in the New Jersey Department of Health Children’s Oral Health Program “Project BRUSH” event on Feb. 23.

Kindergarten students took part in an interactive oral health education program conducted by a dental hygiene staff emphasizing the importance of brushing, flossing, regular dental visits and healthy food choices.  Students also participated in the “Ask a Hygienist” activity in which they could have their oral health questions answered.

The John Adams School also participated in other activities including display of the “Project: BRUSH” poster, delivering scripted oral health announcements and providing participating teachers with oral health education activities for their students.

All participating students received an oral healthcare kit, which included a toothbrush, tooth brushing timer and an oral health sticker.

The New Jersey Department of Health provides grant funds to the Southern Jersey Family Medical Centers Inc. and Zufall Health Center to implement the Statewide Children’s Oral Health Program. The program provides free age-appropriate interactive oral health and hygiene education to school age students.
