North Brunswick student wins awards at Science Fair

Cynthia Liang, a junior at North Brunswick Township High School, received several awards at the 33rd Annual North Jersey Regional Science Fair March 11-12 at Rutgers University.

She won first place in the Bioinformatics category for her project entitled “Identifying Genes Causing Tourette Syndrome Using Whole Exome Sequencing,” as well as second place in the Human Genetics category for the same project.

She also received second place for “Outstanding Projects with Relevance to the Study of Genetics” from the Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey.

The work was completed while she was an volunteer for seven weeks last summer at Rutgers.
