NORTH BRUNSWICK – Darcy Fruchstein has been described as “a joy.”

“Darcy is a phenomenal student,” her principal, Dr. Roy T. Wilson, said after she received the North Brunswick Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services’ Scholar Athlete Artist award for March during the North Brunswick Township Council Meeting on March 21.

“She’s a great student. She’s a joy. She comes and greets me every morning with a smile on her face,” Wilson said.

Darcy is a seventh grade student at Linwood Middle School (LMS) where she is on the high honor roll.

She is a member of the LMS girls’ basketball team, has played recreation basketball for four seasons and has participated in recreation soccer since second grade. She is a “buddy” in the Buddy Ball Soccer Program.

She has played the baritone horn for the Linwood jazz band for the past two years.

In elementary school, Darcy was selected as one of the first two female altar servers at Saint Mary of Mount Virgin Church in New Brunswick, which is now the Parish of Visitation. She continues to serve on a weekly basis. She also holds a leadership position as the head altar server.

She is also a member of the parish Golf Committee, where she assembled prize packages and worked at the awards dinner. She is also an active member of the Coach Bag Bingo Committee.

In addition, Darcy is a member of the North Brunswick Township Youth Council. She volunteers at many township events, such as the Sept. 11 Memorial Cetermony, Hirtage Day, Winterfest, the Easter Egg Hunt and the Martin Luther Kind Jr. event.

“As you can see, we don’t have enough programs for Darcy,” Wilson joked.
