Marlboro council approves funding for capital projects

MARLBORO – The Township Council has adopted a bond ordinance that will fund a series of capital improvements.

No one from the public commented on the ordinance when given the opportunity to do so during a public hearing on Feb. 25. The council adopted the ordinance following the public hearing.

The combined cost of the improvements is estimated at $3.34 million. The ordinance authorizes the issuance of $3.17 million in bonds or notes to help fund the projects. The remaining $167,000 will be a cash down payment from the township.

There will be $1.82 million appropriated for engineering for various capital projects, including but not limited to road and sidewalk improvements; and $173,273 appropriated for engineering for various drainage projects, including but not limited to Church Road and Orchard Parkway.

The Marlboro Police Department will have $127,227 allocated for the acquisition of a truck or van, a copier, mobile radios, a portable thermal night vision camera, communications equipment, a portable public address system, equipment for police vehicles, trucks or vans, and equipment for the emergency response team.

According to the ordinance, $196,248 will be allocated for the acquisition of management information system equipment.

Officials will appropriate $504,400 for the acquisition of a pickup truck with a plow and a dump truck with a plow/spreader (total $239,200) and the acquisition of a front end loader with straight and claw bucket and a trailer (total $265,200).

There will be $199,160 appropriated for above-ground storage tank improvements at the Department of Public Works yard. Improvements at public buildings and the construction of a salt shed are estimated to cost $155,480.

Acquiring a pickup truck with a plow and a dump truck with a plow/spreader for the Parks and Recreation Department is estimated to cost $93,600 and other equipment, including landscape trailers and zero turn mowers, is estimated to cost $45,240.

An estimated $21,840 would be allocated to purchase a minivan for the Recreation Department and $3,120 will be spent to acquire furniture for the municipal court.
