Israeli rabbi to speak at temple

TINTON FALLS — Israeli Rabbi Uri Regev will give a series of talks from 3-8 p.m. May 7 at Monmouth Reform Temple (MRT), 332 Hance Ave. The public is invited to this event.

The topics of Regev’s text-based talks will include “Who Is a Jew?”  “Can Israel Be Both Jewish and Democratic?” and “Liberal Judaism and the Religious/State Clash in Israel.”

“Rabbi Uri Regev commands respect from Jews (and non-Jews) from all walks of the spectrum. As one of the founding strong voices of the Israeli Religious Action Center, now past president of the World Union for Progressive Judaism, and now as founder and executive director of Hiddush (a multicultural activist think tank), Uri’s name has become synonymous with progressive egalitarian change,” said MRT’s Rabbi Marc Kline in a press release.

“Uri is a close personal friend and an amazing teacher. His worldwide commitment to fairness transcends Reform Judaism and even Judaism. Through advocacy, he demonstrates a love for a people, government and land; as a Jewish nation, Israel must be a safe haven for righteousness and egalitarian justice,” said Kline.

Admission is free, and a buffet dinner will be served. Donations are welcome. For more information, call the temple office at 732-747-9365.
