Edward Stockel

Edward Houghton Stockel, Sr., 79, of Manchester, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully following a sudden diagnosis of cancer on March 18 at the Manchester Veterans Medical Center.

Born in Metuchen to John and Margaret Stockel, he lived most of his life in northern New Jersey. He has been a resident of Manchester, New Hampshire, since 2003. He moved to Manchester to be close to his loving family. Edward was an extremely caring and considerate man devoted to his family. He was passionate about the sport of horse racing, sports in general, reading history, and loved to watch the television game show, Jeopardy.

A lifelong patriot and veteran of the U. S. Army, he was an astute and avid follower of current events. All who knew him recognized his brilliant intellect. He was a graduate of Hobart College, Geneva, New York, and is a member of the Hobart College Sports Hall of Fame for football. He also played lacrosse. He was a caring and compassionate man who always thought of others before himself. He shined and could bring a smile to all he met. He never lost the common touch.
He is survived by the love of his life and mother of his children, Ellen Hauge of Manchester, New Hampshire. He cared for Ellen every day for the last five years as she has struggled Alzheimer’s disease, always with patience, love and humor. He is also survived by his three children, Margaret Crowder of Manchester, New Hampshire, Edward Stockel and his wife Sandi of Raymond, New Hampshire, and Eugene Stockel and his wife Sandra of Falls Church, Virginia. He has 10 grandchildren and one great-grand child.

A memorial service for Edward will be held at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, 145 Lowell Street, Manchester, New Hampshire, on April 16 at 10 a.m. Edward’s final resting place will be with his mother, father and brother, John, at Hillside Cemetery in Metuchen.
