Auto racing fans will have the opportunity to check out the new cars that will see competition in 2016 free of charge as Wall Stadium Speedway will present the first of two preseason practice sessions April 9 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. While the grandstands will be open to the public, there is a fee for competitors and crews.

The second of two practice sessions is set for April 16. The season opens April 23.

The 2016 season looks to be the strongest yet at the Shore speedway. All indications point to record car counts, as all pit area spots have already been spoken for.

“It looks like record car counts,” manager Diane Krause said in a press release from the speedway. “We are having trouble getting a spot for everyone, but that is a good problem. We will have a spot for every racer. No racers will be turned away because of parking.”

Competitors are urged to visit the speedway office on practice Saturdays to make arrangements for their 2016 registrations and competitor licenses so that they can avoid long lines on opening night. Racers will also be able to obtain their tires on both practice days, including the Hoosier 850 tires that will be used by the Factory Stocks this season. Factory Stock racers are advised that they will have until June 11 to use up their supply of tires from last season if they choose.

Race car technical inspections will also be conducted during both practice days, and the speedway office will also be open during business hours during the week so that racers can complete their preseason paperwork.

The 2016 weekly Saturday night campaign gets the green flag April 23 with the Downs Ford Modifieds, Snap-on Sportsman cars, Green Flag Driving Experience Legend Cars, Surf Side Collision 4 Cylinder Stocks, Elite Maintenance Limited Late Models, O’Shea’s Auto Repair Factory Stocks and the Three Quarter Midgets all in racing action.

Grandstand seating will open at 5 p.m., qualifying will start at 6 p.m. and main event action is slated for 7 p.m.

The complete regular-season schedule, which runs on Saturday nights through the end of September, is available at wallspeedwayracing.com, as are the rules and regulations for all divisions. Postseason events, the “Spooky Spectacular” in October and the Thanksgiving weekend “Turkey Derby” are also being planned.
