Musical on ’60s Jersey Shore band to be staged

MONMOUTH BEACH — Lighthouse Productions will present the musical, “Running Through the Fire,” from April 28 through May 1 at the Church of the Precious Blood Parish Center, 72 Riverdale Ave.

Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. April 28-30 and 2:30 p.m. May 1.

The production is based on the true story of The Hallmarks, a popular Jersey Shore band in the 1960s and 1970s.

“Running Through the Fire” was written by local father/daughter team Russ Scalzo of Oceanport and Rachel Ryan of Tinton Falls and was first staged in 2010. Since then, Scalzo and Ryan have reworked the script and added new songs.

The story follows Rich as he celebrates the prospect of fame, struggles with drug abuse and eventually finds himself faced with a life or death decision.

The edgy musical will take the audience on a ride full of highs and lows, provide vivid snapshots of the ’60s and ’70s and offer a heartwarming message of hope.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. For more information, call 732-397-3640 or visit www.LighthouseStageProductions.com.
