Suspect connected to two robberies in East Brunswick

EAST BRUNSWICK – Police have connected a suspect to two different robberies in town.

On March 31 at approximately 10:38 p.m., East Brunswick police units responded to Colchester Plaza on Route 18 south and Tices Lane on the report of a stolen purse and a male suspect fleeing the scene on foot, according to a statement released by the East Brunswick Police Department. The male was described as a short black male in his teens wearing dark clothing and last seen running behind KFC. A check of the area for the suspect was negative.

During the investigation, Brian Jackson, 19, of East Brunswick, was determined to be a person of interest, according to police. Det. Dan Unkel and Det. Alex Danese of the East Brunswick Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit were able to locate Jackson several hours later, and during the course of a motor vehicle stop, he was charged with active warrants and hindering apprehension.

Members of the Investigative Division continued to investigate the theft from Colchester Plaza. Through evidence gained during further investigation, it was determined that Jackson was allegedly responsible for the theft from Colchester Plaza along with the March 11 robbery that had occurred at the Speedway Gas Station.

Warrants were approved for both crimes and bail was set in the amount of $70,000 full for the Speedway robbery and $10,000 with 10 percent option for the Colchester Plaza theft.
