Youth, adult events scheduled library

A variety of programs are planned for April at the Old Bridge Public Library Main Branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road.

Forensic scientist Antoinette Campbell-Thwaites will present an informal forensic-science workshop at 2:30 p.m. April 16. The speaker will examine forensics as a career path and discuss the job responsibilities of a forensic chemist who performs forensic drug analysis in a crime laboratory. Participants will be taught to perform a hands-on forensic drug analysis to identify a mystery substance. The program is open to middle and high school students. Registration is not required.

A presentation titled “Raw Food Desserts” is set for 2 p.m. April 23. Participants will watch a live cooking demonstration of desserts, simply made without an oven, using ingredients made from fruits and nuts. To preserve the authenticity of “raw foods,” it is requested that no outside food be brought into the class.

Instructor Varsha Garla will offer a program titled “Indian Dance and Kuchipudi” 2 p.m. April 24. Garla will demonstrate the ancient art of Kuchipudi and explain the origins and meanings of gestures and movements that have been performed for centuries.

“Spring Gardening: Planning, Pruning and Planting” is planned for 7 p.m. April 27. Master gardener Shyamala Sharma will discuss tips to ensure healthy plants throughout the summer.
