HOPEWELL TWP.: $4,300 in rings stolen is ‘distraction theft’

Two people allegedly pulled a distraction theft of about $4,300 in jewelry April 2 at 11:29 a.m. at the Golden Nugget Market on Route 29.
A female employee said an unknown black woman and man came into her store. As the woman distracted her in the rear of the store, the man took a tray of gold rings from a display case.
When the employee confronted them, the thieves ran out of the store.
The investigation is ongoing, but the duo is suspected of a similar recent distraction theft in Lambertville. In that incident, the woman faked having a medical condition while the man stole a tray of rings. Hopewell Township Officer Alexis Mirra is working with officers from Lambertville on the investigation.
