MARLBORO – On May 7 at 11 a.m., Temple Rodeph Torah, Mohawk Drive, will  hosts its third annual community-wide Blessing of the Animals. This event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on TRT’s front lawn, according to a press release.

“For many of us, pets are holy beings who share our lives,” Rabbi Don Weber said. “Through good times and bad, they give us boundless love. With this service we take the opportunity to thank them and to thank their Creator.”

The Blessing of the Animals includes compassionate teachings and songs about animals and about the beautiful bond that exists between animals and humans, according to the press release.

Although dogs and cats will likely be the most common attendees, Temple Rodeph Torah clergy will lead blessings for all animals in attendance, including cuddly “stuffed animal” friends that younger children are encouraged to bring.

“The Blessing of the Animals service will definitely be a unique experience, which kids and adults of all religious backgrounds alike will love,” Cantor Joanna Alexander said. “As an animal lover myself, I am looking forward to having the opportunity to embrace our furry and feathered friends.”

The entire community is encouraged to bring their pets to this short service, which should last about 30 minutes. Following the service there will be free treats for the animals, as well as for the humans who love them. For additional information, visit animals.trt.org or call 732-308-0055.
