COLTS NECK – Republicans Edward Eastman and Russell Macnow will run to retain their seats on the Township Committee.
Township Clerk Beth Kara said Eastman and Macnow were the only two residents to file nominating petitions by the April 4 deadline. Both men will be unopposed in the June 7 GOP primary as they seek their party’s nomination to run in the November general election.
Macnow will be running for a full three-year term that will run from Jan. 1, 2017 to Dec. 31, 2019.
“I look forward to my final three-year term serving as a committeeman and to helping the township address the biggest issue facing our town in many years, which is the affordable housing obligation,” Macnow said.
Republicans have a 5-0 majority on the governing body and for years the GOP officials have adhered to a self-imposed three-term limit.
Macnow is in his second term on the committee. He served as Colts Neck’s mayor in 2014.
Eastman will be running for a one-year term that will expire Dec. 31, 2017. The one year is what remains of a term that was initially won by Jarrett Engel. The seat became vacant when Engel resigned from the committee and Eastman was appointed to serve on the governing body earlier in 2016.
Eastman previously served on the governing body from January 2009 through December 2011. He has not been immediately available to comment on his 2016 election bid.
