HOPEWELL VALLEY: Youth soccer teams open spring play

The Hopewell Valley boys U10 Riptides split two games to start their spring season.
The Riptides rushed past Parsippany, 7-3, behind 4 goals from Brandon Napoleon.
Rex Peters, Charlie Stock-Natalias, and Matthew Whitlock also scored, while assists came from Cameron Velez (2), Christian Mayer, Lukas Ansari, Napoleon, Whitlock and Stocks-Natalias.
Daniel Golian was solid in midfield.
In the second game, Princeton held off a furious Riptide rally to take a 3-2 win. Napoleon scored twice, while Garrett Wille and Kieran Karp provided the assists.
The Riptides got strong defense from Alex Romano and tough goalkeeper play from Will Stover.

The Hopewell Valley girls’ U-14 Hurricanes kicked off their spring JAGS flight play at home on Sunday and earned a 1-1 draw with the Holmdel FC Galaxy.
After giving up an early goal in the first half, the Hurricanes responded with the equalizer as Anna Cappucci stepped up and drilled home a free kick opportunity 25 yards from goal to finish the half.
The Hurricanes turned up the offensive Pressure, generating several chances behind the combination passing of Jolene Evich, Charlotte Hare, Ellie Hawkey and Julia Peters. Goalkeepers Maddie Schrader and Kate Allen made several critical saves behind a strong defensive effort from Chloe Mummert, Carly Sison, Adelinne Danieluk and Emily Cooke. 

The Hopewell Valley girls under-10 Sun Dogs opened their spring season with a 5-1 win over Franklin Township on Sunday.
Emme Muller scored a hat trick with Alexa Marino assisting one of the goals. Gillian Magner posted the fourth on a penalty kick and Julie Somers rounded out the win. Excellent goalkeeping was provided by Kennedy Havens and supported by a defensive line of Frankie Somers, Katie Yancey and Madelyn Patterson. Chloe Johnson and Ana Chrnelich contributed to both offense and defense. Casey von Oehsen and Ellie Lamond rounded out the offensive efforts.

The U-11 Bolts played West Windsor-Plainsboro Benefica to a 2-2 tie. Alex Luedeke scored the Bolts’ first goal on a cross from Ethan Gross. Liam Sciple added a goal on an assist from Luedeke.
Defenders Gunnar Casano, Merrick Liu, and Aldo Branham were strong and goalie Tim McKeown delivered a solid performance. Midfielders Kevin Ellis and Han Sol Kim played well. 
