Caldwell University women’s bowling freshman Amanda Scharf (North Brunswick) was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Bowling Rookie of the Week after shining for the Cougars this past weekend at the Kutztown Allentown Tournament.
Scharf was a significant contributor to the Cougars’ best tournament showing in program history. With Caldwell posting a 7-2 win-loss record at the Kutztown University Allentown Invite, the North Brunswick freshman averaged 18.04 pins per frame over two days of competition. Scharf started off by rolling a 204 game in the Cougars’ 936-854 triumph over NEC rival St. Francis College of Brooklyn. She eclipsed the 200-pin mark again later in the day, keying a 906-874 victory over fellow North Jersey occupant Saint Peter’s University.
The Middletown Athletic Club, host of the Middletown Eagles Football and Cheer Program, is pleased to announce that registration is open for the fall 2016 season. Signup and information can be found online by following the links on the website middletowneagles.com. The Eagles play in the Jersey Shore Conference of the American Youth Football and American Youth Cheer (AYF/AYC) Organization.
Programs include flag football for ages 5 and 6, tackle football for ages 6 to 14, flag cheer for ages 5 and 6 and cheer program for ages 6 to 14. Football programs are determined by age and weight except for 8th Grade Unlimited, which does not have any weight limit. The age/weight matrix can be found at middletowneagles.com.
The program is open to all Middletown youth who live in the following school districts: Bayview, Fairview, Harmony, Leonardo, Middletown Village, Navesink, New Monmouth, Ocean Ave, Port Monmouth, Bayshore and Thorne, as well as adjacent towns who do not offer an American Youth Football program.
Reliever Danny Naif (Jackson Liberty) worked out of a bases-loaded, none-out jam in the top of the eighth inning and junior center fielder Andrew LaMura (Red Bank Catholic) lined a go-ahead, two-run single in the bottom half as Felician University rallied for a 5-3 victory over visiting Post University and a sweep of the teams’ Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball doubleheader April 13 at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Felician captured the first game, 21-0, tying the school record for largest victory margin in a shutout.
Ranney School senior Mallory Burlington of Spring Lake signed a National Letter of Intent with the Varsity Rowing Program at Fairfield University in Connecticut April 18. Receiving early action admittance and an athletic grant, she will join the Fairfield Stags next fall.
Mallory has been a member of Ranney’s Co-Ed Crew team for the past four years, most recently serving as team captain. She is also a member of the Upper School Chorus, the Tri-M Music Honor Society and Saved by a Stitch knitting club.
The Neptune Soccer Association (NSA) U8-U14 Boys & Girls Tryout will be held at Sunshine Village Fields, Pine Drive, Neptune in May. U11-U14 will be May 10 (rain date May 17). U8-U10 will be May 11 (rain date May 18).
