HOPEWELL: Recreation baseball league plays season openers  

Hopewell Valley Recreation Baseball has begun its spring season.

Major League 
Knapps Cyclery and Hogan Self-Storage tied, 7-7. For Knapps Cyclery, Nick Tagliereni pitched one inning and struck out 2 batters. Paul Myers of Hogan Self-Storage also only pitched one inning and also struck out 2 batters. Dylan Eng went 2-3 with 2 home runs and 3 RBIs. Tim Mckweon went 2-2 with a walk and a RBI.
– The Applebee’s Phillies overcame a deficit to beat the O’s, 6-5. The Phillies’ Christopher Tobia went 3-3 with a single and two RBI doubles. The Phillies defense was great, particularly with Alex D’Avanzo’s diving catch. D’Avanzo, Tobia and Jake Laughery all pitched. Brendan Myers of the O’s slapped two singles, one for a RBI.
– The Kuppek Landscaping Red Sox’s defeated the Hogan Self-Storage Mets, 3-2. Jack Lengle and Jay Swindell both pitched well. Red Sox player Eli Miller was slugged a RBI double in the 4th inning. Dylan Eng helped his Mets team by hitting a solo HR in the 5th inning.
– Vito’s A’s won, 10-6, over the STS Tire Yankees. The A’s scored two runs on hits from Armaan Singh and Jarret Greenzang and added three runs in the 3rd. The Yankees started a comeback in the 4th, scoring runs by Matt Brown, Jarrett Sharp, Jeff Petrozzini and Ben Pernino.
– The Kuppek Landscape Red Sox beat the Applebee’s Phillies, 12-6. Atticus Jamison had 3 RBIs for the Red Sox. Jay Swindale scored 4 times. Jake Croce hit a 2-run homer and pitched well for the Phillies. Jake Loughery struck out 5 in two innings pitched.
– The first 4 innings were  eventful in this game between STS Tire, and Vito’s Pizza. Vito’s started out with 4 runs in the first inning. STS then responded with 2 in the third inning.
In the fifth, Gunnar takes off for home on a wild pitch and makes the game 5-2. In the 6th, Dominic, Scotty, and Jarred all score to tie the game at 5. In the 7th, Logan’s hit won the game.

Babe Ruth Baseball 
The Bad News Bears took a 15-5 victory over the Colavita Jewelers in a five-inning slugfest. Colavita Jewelers started on the board with a RBI from Sean Lawton to score Luke Sodomin.
The Bad News Bears remained scoreless until the bottom of the third with runs from Luis Figueroa, Chris Romano and Sam Fowler. Colavita came back to tie the game in the fourth with runs from Charlie Potter, Jack Avanzato and a RBI single from Riley Gregg.
The Bad News Bears scored 12 runs in the fourth with triples from Luke Blair and Jack Haynes, doubles from Tony St John and Jimmy McSweeny, and singles from Andrew Ashton, Gavin Aker, Grayson Russo, Fowler and Riley Murphy. Sam Fowler went 2 for 2, scored twice, and had four RBIs for the game.
Colavita Jewelers came back with two runs from Matt Oshel and Lawton. Oshel went 2 for 2 with a single and a double, and Potter, Jack Avanzato, Gregg, Sodomin, and Lawton each had a single.
— Kings Pizza beat the Ewing Kiwanis, 12-2. Kings Pizza had great pitching by Kenny Tagliareni. The team only let in two runs, and Kings Pizza was strong up at bat. Marc Papora, Anthony Mari, Eddie Chmara and Rafael Torres all had doubles.
– Peddlers Village beat the Jewelers, 9-6, in a back-and-forth game. Dakota Ditmars started off the 5th inning with a base hit. Robbie Rose and Jack Avanzato were able to get RBIs to get the Jewelers back in the game. In the bottom of the 5th Maxwell Ward hit a double to lead off the inning. Andrew Blake had a triple to drive in two runs. This inning clutched the win for Peddlers Village.
–  The Bad News Bears took the win against Aztec Graphics, 12-2, in the five-inning opener.
For the Bears, Luke Blair went 2 for 2 with two singles. Jack Haynes, Luis Figueroa, and Grayson Russo each had one double. Gavin Aker, Figueroa, Sam Fowler, and Jimmy McSweeny each added a single. Scored runs came from Tony St. John, Blair, Haynes, Figueroa, Russo, Anish Patel and Nick Descoteau.
For Aztec, Rickey Eng and Carmen Zangrilli each doubled. Zangrilli and Drew Brodine each had a single. Eng and Zangrilli scored for Aztec Graphics in the bottom of the fifth.
Haynes (Bad News Bears) and Anthony Yarson (Aztec Graphics) each had four Ks.
